Isaiah 40:31 tells us, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” Another way to say that is, “They that wait upon the Lord shall exchange their strength” – it’s ours for His! You and I have the amazing privilege and opportunity of complete freedom of access to the King of Kings. We may freely enter into His presence and obtain help, strength, grace and favor! The Lord Himself has offered us the opportunity to fellowship with Him and to have access to all of His eternal resources and abilities.
I think that if we really let that truth sink in, we would all spend a lot more time praying! I believe that we can accomplish more with twenty minutes of prayer than with twenty hours of labor! If we really believe that God will answer our prayers, our biggest prayer of the day will not be “Lord, please bless this meal.” We will take seriously the opportunity and authority that He has imparted to us.
The second verse of the hymn “Come, My Soul, Thy Suit Prepare” by John Newton says,
Thou art coming to a King;
Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and power are such,
None can ever ask too much.
He is a powerful, mighty God whose help is always available and whose resources are endless. What an amazing adventure we are on with Him! What an incredible privilege to be able to talk to Him and then to have Him talk to us! As we pour our love into Him, He pours His love into us. Spending time in prayer and worship not only blesses the Lord (think about that, we can bless our Lord!) but it also blesses our own souls.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of meeting many great people and world leaders involved in politics, business and ministry. It has always fascinated me to watch and listen to people who have accomplished noteworthy things and reached incredible goals in their lives. I like to absorb some of their wisdom and knowledge as I listen to them speak and watch them relate to their world. Just like being in their presence is a great honor and a rare privilege that I never take for granted, being in the presence of God is the biggest honor.
During this busy season take time to stop, be thankful to our God and spend some time with Him … he is waiting for you!
